Winnie Holzman and Stephen Schwartz, creative founders of Wicked, were motivated by the 1995 Gregory Maguire novel "Wicked: The Life and Times of the Wicked Witch of the West".

The broadway musical originally premiered in 2003, thus it is now 21 years old. Since its inception, Wicked has gone on to surpass $1 BILLION in box office sales on Broadway. Only The Phantom of the Opera & The Lion King have accomplished this remarkable achievement. Wicked has also graced theatres outside of Broadway, with achievements in Los Angeles, San Fransisco, Miami, and London.
