In an interview with Esquire's Sirena He, asked about how he balances issues that affect the AAPI community, "you want these stories to be told and you don't think anyone else is doing them," the man said. "We need to talk about these issues, because if I don't talk about it, no one else is going to talk about it, or no one's going to care in the way that I care about it," he added, explaining that the folks over at The Daily Show respect and support the stories he wants to tackle.
Ronny Chieng was born in 1985, and lived in Johor Bahru while attending school in Singapore. He grew up both in Singapore and the United States up until 1994. He later moved to Australia for his higher education. Diving in the world of comedy in 2013 as he toured with Trevor Noah, the man found his big viral break when he revisited New York City's Chinatown after Jesse Watter's controversial segment on Fox News. Chieng hosted respectful interviews in Chinese and soon went viral.
In 2016, he co-wrote and starred in his own sitcom, "Ronny Chieng: International Student", drawing inspiration from his experiences as a Malaysian student living in Australia. Comedy Central and ABC TV picked the series up, and from then on, he found his place in the world of comedy.
