Representing the art-pop/ hard-rock fusion during the rock & roll era, The Who dominated the second wave of the British invasion. Their style opened doors for the popularization of the pop and rock subgenres. "Tommy," 'Who's Next," "Endless Wire, and "Who" are among their biggest releases. Their contribution to the rock scene is evident today. They started with volatile energy, which became a hard rock insignia. Other contributions include the power chord, windmill strum, pop art fashion, and the use of random noises in a song. Their powerful performances made waves to the scene decade after decade as they influenced the next trailblazers of the scene. Pink Floyd, Queen, Guns n' Roses, Green Day, Pearl Jam, and Panic! At The Disco are among the long list of bands that took inspiration in their one-of-a-kind stylings. Their greatness made them recognized as one of the founding fathers of heavy metal.
As the legacy lives on, the remaining members continue to spread the eclectic energy of the band to today's rock enthusiasts. Leadman Roger Daltrey has been with the band since the start. Even more than 50 years since their rise in the 60s, he never fails to bring The Who to the consciousness of the new generation.
This year, the rock icon will be on a rare tour, which will bring him to theatres in the US. This tour will see him performing "mostly acoustic set of Who gems, rarities, solo nuggets and other surprises with an intimate rock-based band and setting as well as answering questions from the audience."
This rock-based band he will be bringing with him to the road includes guitarist Simon Townshend (brother of his longtime The Who co-member Peter Townshend), mandolin performer Billy Nicholl, percussionist Jody Linscott, guitarist Doug Boyle, bassist John Hogg, violinist Katie Jacoby, harmonica player Steve Weston, keyboardist Geraint Watkins, and drummer Scott Devours.
This tour will reach the Meadow Brook Amphitheatre on June 25. Performing with him and his band for this concert is one of the greatest songwriters of today, Dan Bern. Bern is known for writing thousands of songs for himself and for other artists. His biggest records include "God Said No," and "I'm Not The Guy."
