"The Nutcracker has become a holiday tradition for so many," development associate and volunteer coordinator Maria Maccaroni shared. "It brings back a sense of nostalgia for some, and on the other hand, can be brand new to others and introduce them to ballet or live performance."
The Indianapolis Ballet is now in its fifth season and is the city's first professional resident ballet group in more than ten years. The Indianapolis School of Ballet, on the other hand, was founded in 2006 and is the top location in the city for pre-professional ballet training.
If you've never seen "The Nutcracker," it is a two-act traditional ballet that features Ivan Vsevolozhsky and Marius Petipa's adaptation of Hoffmann's fairytale story, "The Nutcracker and the Mouse King." Set to music by Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky, it tells the tale of a young girl who travels on an extraordinary journey to the Land of Sweets on Christmas Eve and encounters an abundance of enchanting creatures along the way.
“Performing in all the other countless roles were dancers from the Indianapolis School of Ballet, all of whom exhibited excellent training and potential. Even the non-dancers, including those who played the mothers and fathers in the opening party scene, were vibrant,” Emmy award-winning documentary filmmaker Tom Alvarez shared about the live show.
