Critically-acclaimed music artist George Thorogood has been legendary in the blues rock industry since the late ‘70s. With 15 studio efforts at his helm, Thorogood has steadily enjoyed a successful career since his rise to prominence in the ‘80s. In 1986, Thorogood’s music was at an all-time high. His live album sold over a million copies, earning platinum status in the U.S.
Thorogood debuted with his backing band, The Destroyers, in 1977. They released their self-titled debut album via Rounder Records and entered the charts in Australia and New Zealand. Due to Thorogood’s eventual fame, the album sold over 500,000 copies in the U.S., earning a gold certification in the process. The album contains several sensational covers of notable hits, such as Elmore James’ “Madison Blues,” John Lee Hooker’s “House Rent Boogie,” and Elias McDaniel’s “Ride on Josephine.”
After a stellar debut, the band made their first breakthrough into the mainstream chart by releasing their sophomore album, Move It Over. The record peaked at number 33 on the Billboard 200 and once again charted in Australia and New Zealand. Move It Over contains iconic rock and roll covers from artists such as Willie Dixon, Elmore James, Chuck Berry, and James Moore. Meanwhile, the album is named after the band’s cover of Hank Williams’ “Move It Over.”
Aside from covers, Thorogood and The Destroyers have also belted out several original hits. In 1982, they released their most famous hit, “Bad to the Bone.” Although the single didn’t enter the mainstream chart, it has become a staple rock and roll track featured in various films and TV series. The song has made appearances on iconic titles, such as “Who’s The Boss,” “Problem Child,” “Megamind,” “Terminator 2: Judgement Day,” and more. “Bad to the Bone” is the title track of Thorogood's gold-certified fifth album, which peaked at number 43 on the Billboard 200.
