The Nutcracker is a classic ballet performance featuring the music of Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky, legendary Russian composer responsible for Swan Lake, 1812 Overture, and of course, The Nutcracker. Originally choreographed by Marius Petipa and Lev Ivanov, The Nutcracker debuted in St. Petersburg in 1892. Although the ballet performance was met with mixed reviews, The Nutcracker still grew in popularity. Today, the show is performed by hundreds of ballet companies all over the world. Most productions will have their own choreography and renditions, but the main storyline is the same.
The Nutcracker tells the story of a doll named Clara and her owner Marie Stablbaum. Clara falls in love with The Nutcracker, who later becomes a prince.
